Portfolio Update - January 2025
2024 is in the rear-view, did we beat the market?
Good evening investors!
Every month we publish our “Portfolio Update” — Edge+ members get a full access look into our portfolios, including holdings, performance, activity and our watchlists for the upcoming month.
Let’s dive in.

Portfolio Snapshot
As of the end of December 2024, my portfolio contained 52 total positions, which is 2 more than the prior month.
You can see all the portfolio activity down below, but first, here is a snapshot of my entire portfolio:
Portfolio Performance
In this section, I will highlight the performance of the portfolio both on a MONTHLY and Year-To-Date basis.
For comparison, here is how the benchmark S&P 500 did during those same time frames:
And here is how the equal weighted S&P 500 performed:
I am extremely frustrated at myself as the portfolio stumbled into the finish line and broke my streak of SEVEN STRAIGHT years of outperforming the S&P 500. A lot of it had to do with an option trade at the end of the year where I sold a CSP on shares of Micron at $94, but the stock sunk to $84, meaning I had $18,800 worth of Micron that was down 10% out of the gate. Look at Micron today and those shares are now UP more than 6% since I purchased them. That would have changed the full outcome of my year.
However, I am not going to sit here and sulk about a 20%+ year like we had in 2024. That is a fantastic year any way you look at it. We fell JUST short of outpacing the S&P 500 and we doubled up the performance of the equal weighted S&P 500.
Now we turn the page to 2025, which will bring its own unique challenges and as we embark on a new year, even though we are only 2 weeks into the new year, I feel like a lot has changed within my portfolio.
I will discuss the trades I made during December down below and we will talk about some of the new positions I have made in January during our Monthly Meeting.
Stay tuned within our discord where Edge+ members get TRADE ALERTS, being notified of any changes I make to my portfolio in real time.

In this section, I detail out any transactions that were made within the portfolio during the month.
As we head into the final month of the year, I will look for some tax loss harvesting opportunities as well as look for areas to reposition my portfolio for 2025. I started this process already by…upgrade to Edge+ to see Mark’s entire portfolio and the moves made during the month.

Portfolio Snapshot
As of the end of December 2024, my brokerage portfolio contained 58 total positions — 56 stock holdings and 2 options contract.
Here is a snapshot of my portfolio:
Portfolio Performance
In this section, I will highlight the performance of my portfolio in December as well as for the full year.
For comparison, here is how the benchmark S&P 500 did during those same time frames:
And here is how the equal weighted S&P 500 performed:
My portfolio capped off a strong year despite some headwinds in the final month. In December, my portfolio delivered a return of -1.7%, outperforming both the S&P 500 (-2.5%) and the Equal Weight S&P 500 (-6.44%). While December brought challenges, the portfolio demonstrated resilience in a tough market environment.
For the full year, my portfolio achieved a return of +23.6%, narrowly beating the benchmark S&P 500, which gained +23.3%. The Equal Weight S&P 500 lagged significantly with a return of +10.9%. While the margin of outperformance against the S&P 500 may have been slim, the results reinforce the importance of active management and strategic decision-making. As the great Vin Diesel once said, “It doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning.”
The portfolio’s sizable addition in value over the course of 2024 is a testament to strong stock selection and disciplined risk management. December’s slight decline of $8,136.47 in portfolio value reflects the broader market’s struggles but underscores my ability to minimize downside risks relative to key benchmarks.
Looking ahead, the portfolio remains well-positioned to navigate both opportunities and challenges in 2025. December's results serve as a reminder that even during periods of volatility, focusing on long-term fundamentals and tactical adjustments pays dividends. Here’s to another year of thoughtful investing and beating the benchmarks—by an inch or a mile.
